1. Simple Product

A simple product is a basic item in store that doesn't give you different choices. It's a common type of product in stores. In Magento 2, a simple product is identified by its name. It can be sold on its own or as part of other types of products. Simple products can have different prices but need options like colour or size. Each product has a unique code called SKU (Store Keeping Unit).

Examples: bag, power bank, cup, or table.

1. Simple Product

Log in to your Magento admin panel. Then, click on Catalog > Products in the sidebar. Next, click "Add Product" at the top-right corner and choose "Simple Product" from the drop-down menu.

Step 2: Choose the Attribute Set You have two options: search for and select an attribute set name or go with the default option.

Step 3: Fill in the Required Details

Enter the product name, price, and weight. Add any additional configuration details if needed. Click "Save." Then, choose the store view where you want the product to be available.

Step 4: Configure Basic Settings

Set the tax class, stock quantity, visibility (preferably "Catalog, Search"), assign categories, set new product dates, and choose the country of manufacture.

Step 5: Publish the Product

Make sure you've filled in all the required information. Fill in sections like content, images, related products, SEO, etc.

Step 6: Make Your Product Available

Switch on the "Product Online" switch.

Finally, save your changes, and you're done!

You can also set it as a featured product for more attention from customers.

2. Configurable Product

Configurable products are some complex than simple products. They comprise a simple product and other choices like size, colour, or material. Each choice has its own SKU, which helps the store manager keep track of each variation's inventory.

Example: A jacket with full sleeves is configurable since it comes in various colours and sizes.

2. Configurable Product

How to add Configurable Product Type in Magento 2

Creating a configurable product type in Magento 2 follows steps similar to creating a simple product. Here's a simplified guide:

Step 1: Mandatory Steps
  • Choose "Configurable Product" as the product type.
  • Select an attribute or set it as default if you don't have any specific attribute.
  • Fill in the required details like product name, SKU, price, etc.
  • Set basic settings like Tax Class, Stock Availability, Product Categories, etc.
  • Save your progress and move to the next step for product variation.
Step 2: Add Configuration

This step involves 4 sub-tasks:

  • Select attributes to associate with your product.
  • Add configuration for the configurable product.
  • You can also create new attributes if needed.
  • Enter attribute values. For example, enter different colour options if you have a colour attribute.
Step 3: Set images for each variant:
  • Apply a single pair of images to all SKUs.
  • Each SKU should have a unique image based on the attribute.
  • Set prices and quantities for each variant.

Review the summary of the configurable product to ensure everything is correct before generating the product and publishing it.

3. Grouped Product

A grouped product is a bundle of several related simple or virtual products. They're shown together on one page and share similar characteristics. Grouped products don't have prices; only the individual products within the group do. These products can be bought separately or as a whole group, like a set of knives in different sizes. Grouped products are ideal for promoting items that complement each other. They encourage customers to buy multiple products at once by combining complementary items. For instance, a furniture set, a summer outfit with sunglasses, hats, and shorts, or a combo of beauty products like eyeliner and mascara. When setting up grouped products in Magento 2, remember.
  • The total price of the grouped product should match the sum of the individual simple products included in the group.
  • Even though products are grouped, they're shown separately in the shopping cart.
  • You can manage stock availability for the group of products, but inventory needs to be managed separately for each item.
3. Grouped Product

How to add Grouped Product Type in Magento 2

Adding a grouped product is similar to other product types, with an extra step to group the products:

  • Follow the initial steps for adding a product in Magento.
  • Choose "Grouped Product" as the product type.
  • Fill in all required details for the product.
  • Add associated products to the group.
  • Complete the remaining steps as usual.
  • Save your changes, and the grouped product is ready.

Follow these steps, and you'll have your group products set up quickly.

4. Virtual Product

Virtual products are items that don't exist physically, so they don't require shipping, downloading, or delivery. They're similar to simple products but without the weight option because they're intangible. Virtual products are commonly used for memberships, subscriptions, and warranties. They can be used together with grouped and bundled products.

Examples: online courses or consulting services, insurance, memberships, subscriptions, and tech services. You might offer a two-year warranty, installation service, or VIP membership as virtual products.

4. Virtual Product

Step 6: View the Product in Your Store

Check your store to ensure the virtual product is correctly listed and accessible to customers.

Following these steps will allow you to easily create a virtual product in Magento 2, making it available in your store.

5. Bundled Product

Bundled products are personalised collections made up of several simple or electronic products. Unlike individual items, bundled products can't be bought separately. They allow customers to create their products by choosing from various options.

In other e-commerce platforms, bundled products are often called "kits."

Example: Sprite Yoga Companion Kit, which includes items like a yoga brick, ball, strap, and foam roller. Customers must purchase all items in the kit as they're bundled together, with no option to choose individual items.

6. Downloadable Product

Downloadable products are items that can be downloaded, such as e-books, software, videos, and files. Customers can only use these products after they've been downloaded. Before downloading, they can preview a trailer or sample for testing purposes. The files can be stored on your server or provided as URLs to another server. In essence, products that can be downloaded are referred to as downloadable products. They are digital items that enable you to sell digital products.

Examples: yoga videos for learners, games, Magento extensions, music files, and software are all examples of downloadable products.
